The town of Hadrianoutherai or Hadrianutherae is believed to have been founded by the Roman emperor Hadrian following a successful hunt in the neighborhood. Its location is not completely certain, but recent scholarship has largely focused on Çayırhisar on the southeastern edge of modern Balıkesir.
