Annotations

Unusual two storey tower-like cult structure, dedicated according to inscriptions to Zeus Beelgalasos and to the emperor Claudius with a large altar in front of it (restored in 1943) and an ex voto (?) monument with a peristyle of four small columns and a garland motif to the south east1. Taylor2 suggests a relationship with pyramid shaped tombs at Palmyra which seems likely.
