Kocaoğuz Stele

Kocaoğuz Stele was re-used in a Roman time structure, thus the original location is unknown. Kocaoğuz Stele was found ca 50 km to the west of the city of Afyon  re-used in a Roman time structure north of the road between Cayi and Sultandagi. The stele is made of granit block. It mesures  ca 2 meters height,  0.5 meter width, 0.25 m. depth.. Below. Above a two-sentence inscription was placed a winged sun disk. The stele was dedicate ti Storm-god made to commemoriite the victory of prince TARPA-*109-*285 over a city/land¹ The genealogy of  the prince is unknown, anyway the Winged Sun Disc implies the membership of the royal family of Hattusas. Stylistically the inscription is close to those of Tudhaliya IV (ca. 1237–1209 BC)and his son Suppiluliuma II (reigned ca 1207-1178 BC)².
