The inscription on the statue base dedicated to Athena Pedasis, probably from the late 5th century BC, found in late 19th century, is the first important document about the existence of the  Athena Temple at Pedasa. The Sanctuary is located on the lower slope of the hill rising to the north.

The sanctuary precinct came into use in the 10th century BC; and, from the beginning of the 7th century BC, the temple terrace was reorganized as a cult place, and around the third quarter of the 6th century BC the temple was erected.
