Myus according the legend was founded by Cyaretus one of the Codrus sons. Myus was one of the Ionian dodecapois neverheless was poor city, because of the poorly chosen location. Placed in unhealthy malariar terrain on the small penisula by the Meander, never played any important role in the history of Ionia1. According to Strabo: Myus was founded by Cydrelus, bastard son of Codrus; Lebedus by Andropompus, who seized a place called Artis; Colophon by Andraemon a Pylian, according to Mimnermus in his Nanno2. Pausanias in the second century : The Ionians who settled at Myus and Priene , they too took the cities from Carians. The founder of Myus was Cyaretus the son of Codrus, but the people... the present day are accounted Ionians. The people of Myus left their city on account of the following accident... movables, and on my visit I found nothing in Myus except a white marble temple of Dionysus. A similar fate to that of Myus happened to the people of Atarneus under Mount Pergamus3. During the period of Strabo ( XIV), Myus was located thirty stadia (800 m) off the shore, accessible only with small boats4.
