Umma currently Tell Jokha, an archaeological site in Iraq was an ancient city-state founded by the Sumerians in southern Mesopotamia. It is known primarily for a long border  conflict with the neighboring city-state of Lagash.  Lugalzagesi, King of Umma,  (reigned c. 2358 - 2334 BC), circa 2350 BC united Sumer and Akkad for 16 years. Subsequently, Umma was conquered by Sargon the Great.
