Annotations

A Flavian fort built C. 70,  and a  second Antonine period fort built at a slightly different orientation  c 160-180 and abandoned by the end of the century.  The Vicus grew up to the east of the fort, and when the town was fortified, the area of the Antonine fort was taken in within the walls, with the south and west line of the fort defenses being the line of the town walls. The Flavian fort is shown in yellow.
