The ancient ruin of a pier of Trajan's Bridge on the Romanian shore of the Danube, at Drobeta-Turnu Severin. It is presently surrounded by a square concrete compound which was built to protect it from the rise of the water level following the construction of the Iron Gate I dam. In the background, a few meters away from the concrete wall and not visible, the railway track which connects Orșova to Craiova.
