Annotations

Perge was one of the most important cities of ancient Pamphylia. The origins of the city dates back to the Chalcolithic perod1. First in the history Perge appeares as Parha, on the river Kastaraya in the Bronze Tablet treaty between Tudhaliya IV and his cousin Kuruntiya, King of Tarhuntassa2 The main time of prosperity was in the Hellenistic and Roman periods, from the second century BC to the third century AD. According to Greek mythology the legendary origins of Perge date back to the migration after the Troyan War in the XIII-XII century BC.
